David B. Matias, CPA
David started the Vodia Companies in 2004, later with the help of a family office, to tap into the growing need for funding in many of the acute pain points that the economy and society would be facing, and leveraging his relationships at MIT and Harvard. Although the strategy became more widely accepted in the decade that followed as a more socially oriented approach, he focused on using this lens to enhance financial returns.
That strategy ultimately manifested across a range of investment strategies through the wealth management firm he led and founded, Vodia Capital. Namely, in the areas of digital health, financial technology, and water infrastructure, David has led a number of investments and transactions that have been transformative for his investors and those benefiting from the activities of these companies.
Prior to launching the Vodia family of companies, David was a CPA with Coopers & Lybrand Boston (now PwC) and a Partner at Mitchell Madison Group, specializing in risk management models for European money center banks. He took a sabbatical in the early 2000s to learn the frame-to-finish carpentry trade as a laborer and ultimately built two homes for himself and his extended family.
David has a Bachelor of Arts in Political Science from Amherst College and a Master of Science from the MIT Sloan School of Management. He did his research thesis at MIT on derivative pricing models with notables such as Robert Merton and Zvi Bodie while collaborating with Bridgewater Associates.
David sits on several boards, for-profit and non-profit, and enjoys a range of outdoor activities. His Wiemeraner Phoebe, who passed away after having lived a marvelous life, is his inspiration for living in the moment. He calls New York City and Boston home.
